Low-pain way to start cold showers
There are many benefits to cold showers. I don't want to state clichés; after I have taken cold showers for a few months and can truly feel clear benefits, I'll write them down.
Bypass the brain's resistance mechanism as much as possible (Fogg Behavior Model: Don't fight instincts):
Start with warm water for one minute, then slowly lower the water temperature.
When the water gets cold enough that you begin to feel a bit uncomfortable, play a high-energy song at full volume, for example:
It's My Life - Bon Jovi
It's On - Easy E
Rage Your Dream - m.o.v.e
Wanna Fly To Be Wild - m.o.v.e
Remember The Name - Fort Minor/Styles of Beyond
After one song finishes, your body has already gotten used to the water temperature.
Yelling, growling, or swearing can effectively invigorate your spirit and counter discomfort — it's human instinct, so don't worry about manners in this scenario. For some people, slapping one’s own face hard also works well.
A very representative yeller is Shi Zhiyong; in weightlifting you probably won't find a competitor who yells more energetically than him.
